A large-scale campaign to identify passengers evading fare payments in public transport continues in the capital of Uzbekistan. Specialists from the State Institution for Monitoring and Control of Public Transport in Tashkent are conducting regular raids on bus routes across all districts of the city.
According to the institution's data as of March 16, 2026, inspectors from the Department for Supervision of Transport Service Quality have drawn up 4,781 administrative protocols against fare evaders. This figure represents just a single day's tally, highlighting the institution's ongoing daily efforts to enforce compliance.
The overall statistics since the beginning of the current year are even more striking: 26,564 individuals have been held accountable for violating travel rules. All protocols have been formalized based on Part 5, Article 144 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, which stipulates fines for such infractions.
The campaign aims to maintain order in public transport and reduce financial losses to the state budget. However, the high number of violations suggests persistent challenges, possibly due to public distrust in the transport system or economic hardships, underscoring the difficulties in urban governance and the need for more effective solutions beyond punitive measures.
