On March 14, an event titled 'I Also Plant a Sapling' was held in Tashkent's Bektemir district, aimed at strengthening the capital's ecological sustainability. The initiative saw participation from city administration leadership, representatives of various state agencies, banks, and entrepreneurs. As part of the project, a 'green belt' is being established on a 25-hectare area, with plans to plant approximately 15,000 trees.

In an interview with Gazeta, Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov emphasized that preparations for this project began last year, with tree planting carried out according to a plan coordinated with specialists, considering factors such as sapling quality, height, and timing. He also noted that the decision was made to develop this land as a green zone rather than for construction purposes.

Umurzakov stated that, due to the President's focus, ecological issues have been elevated to the level of state policy. Weekly tree-planting events are planned for Saturdays and Sundays, with voluntary participation open to those willing to contribute to expanding green spaces. Parks have already been established in 12 districts of the capital, with new ones expected in the coming weekends.

The mayor highlighted that ecological efforts are still in their early stages and announced plans to construct 12 large lakes and fountains across the city, as well as, for the first time, create parks on approximately 140 hectares of land. He urged focusing on current and future projects rather than dwelling on past shortcomings.

Umurzakov's vision is for Tashkent and Uzbekistan to become an educated and healthy nation. He believes that improving public health and knowledge will lead to the preservation of natural resources and national development.
