Samarkand Region is poised to become the center of Uzbekistan's largest economic reforms and technological modernization. According to plans announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Narpay District, the region will receive record funding totaling 11 trillion soums from all sources, with local businesses granted additional credit resources of 18 trillion soums.
These investments are designed to deliver a qualitative leap in the economy: the region aims to achieve a gross regional product growth to 144 trillion soums (at least 9% growth) and attract $3 billion in foreign direct investment. Samarkand will receive $100 million for modernizing mahalla infrastructure, while Urgut District will separately receive an additional $50 million.
One of the most innovative expenditure items will be the integration of artificial intelligence into the public administration system. The region will receive $200 million for creating AI infrastructure and supporting relevant startups. By May 1, a "big data" analysis system will be launched in Narpay and Termez Districts, enabling the "mahalla seven" and banks to identify the most effective capital investment points based on each area's potential.
Personalized funding is also allocated for Narpay District: in addition to the planned 150 billion soums for infrastructure, the district will receive another 100 billion soums. A credit line of 360 billion soums has been opened here for small and medium-sized businesses.
The ultimate outcome of these massive investments is intended to be the complete eradication of unemployment and poverty. Plans include providing permanent employment for 100,000 people, lifting 31,000 families out of poverty, and increasing the region's export potential to $1.2 billion. As emphasized by the head of state, the volume of allocated funds is unprecedented and demands a fundamentally new quality of work from leaders at all levels.
