The government of Uzbekistan, as part of the nationwide "Clean Air" project, is implementing a series of restrictions for the public sector. The reform of the transport system will begin with the personal example of officials – starting May 1, 2026, "car-free days" are officially established in the capital.
According to the decree, a complete ban on the use of official vehicles for state employees is introduced twice a month – on the 10th and 25th. On these days, officials of all levels are recommended to commute to work using public transport, bicycles, or on foot.
This measure aims not only to reduce the volume of harmful emissions into the atmosphere but also to popularize eco-friendly modes of transportation among the population. Monitoring compliance with the travel moratorium will be carried out as part of tracking the effectiveness of environmental reforms.
It is worth recalling that the practice of "car-free days" in Uzbekistan was initiated back in 2024. According to a presidential decree from February 21 of that year, the campaign was held on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
