Uzbekistan Issues Mudflow and Flood Warning for 8 Regions Amid Expected Rainfall
Uzbekistan has issued a warning about the risk of mudflows and floods in mountainous and foothill areas due to expected rainfall on March 31 and April 2–6. Sherzodkhuja Khabibullakhuja, Director of the Uzbekistan Hydrometeorological Service (Uzhydromet), announced the alert, which covers numerous districts across eight regions, including Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Tashkent, Namangan, Fergana, and Andijan regions.
Specifically, in Kashkadarya region, the districts of Yakkabag, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitab, Shahrisabz, Kamashi, and Guzar are at risk; in Surkhandarya region, Sariosiyo, Uzun, Altynsay, Denau, Boysun, Sherabad, Shurchi, Kumkurgan, and Muzrabat districts are threatened. In Samarkand region, Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurobod, Koshrabot, Kattakurgan, Payarik, Jomboy, and Ishtikhon districts are included in the warning.
In Navoi region, Khatyrchi, Navbahor, Nurota, Konimekh, and Karmana districts are at risk; in Jizzakh region, Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaaral, Sharaf Rashidov, Farish, and Yangiabad districts are affected. Tashkent region includes Akhangaran, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Piskent, Urta Chirchik, Yukori Chirchik districts, and the cities of Angren and Almalyk. Namangan region covers Pap, Kosonsoy, Chartak, Chust, Namangan, and Yangikurgan districts; Fergana region includes Sokh, Shahrikhan, Fergana, and Beshariq districts; Andijan region involves Andijan, Asaka, Jalalkuduk, Kurgantepa, Pakhtaabad, Izboskan, Khojaabad, Marhamat districts, and the city of Khanabad. Accumulation of rainwater in some areas may lead to flooding.
Citizens living in these foothill and mountainous areas, as well as tourists and drivers traveling to mountain zones, are advised to take precautionary measures and closely monitor weather forecasts. This warning is part of Uzbekistan's disaster preparedness efforts to protect the population from natural hazards during the rainy season.
