According to a decree signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on March 25, the '10,000 Steps Walking' experiment, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, will be revived in Uzbekistan starting May 1. This measure is part of comprehensive actions under the national 'Eco-Culture' project, focused on advancing ecological education and science.
The decree also outlines the launch of the 'Healthy Lifestyle' platform (1hls.uz). Annually, 10 billion Uzbek soums will be allocated from the Special Fund for the platform, indicating the government's investment in public health. The Ministry of Health, Ministry of Digital Technologies, and Ministry of Sports have been tasked with developing and approving an incentive system for platform users.
Previous phases of the initiative have faced challenges: the platform was established based on a 2020 decree, with an additional 60 billion soums allocated in 2021, but in 2022, daily payments of 3,000 soums for walking 10,000 steps were halted, transitioning to a new incentive scheme. That same year, on April 6, the platform's activities were terminated. With the revival process now beginning, relevant authorities must prepare analytical reports on the project's effectiveness and impact on human activity once the funds are exhausted.
While this decree targets improving public health and raising ecological awareness, it raises concerns about past failures and the efficient allocation of resources. The platform's relaunch reflects the state's ongoing efforts to promote healthy living, but implementation difficulties remain notable.
