In the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan, Ecopolice officers have uncovered a case of illegal fishing using an electric shock device at the Sardoba reservoir, which runs through the Central Mirzachul Canal. During a night raid, the violators were apprehended, and it was determined that they had caught 54 fish of five species using this prohibited method.
These actions constitute a gross violation of the requirements of the Laws "On Nature Protection" and "On Wildlife Protection." The damage inflicted on wildlife exceeds 733 million soums, posing potential risks to ecological balance and contributing to the depletion of fish stocks in the area.
Documentation is being prepared for submission to the prosecutor's office regarding this incident. This is not the first such case in the Syrdarya region: previously, in the Saykhunabad district, two residents illegally caught nearly 50 fish with an electric shock device, causing over 519 million soums in environmental damage.
Ecopolice representatives emphasize the need to intensify efforts against illegal fishing, as such practices threaten local ecosystems and biodiversity. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in enforcing environmental regulations in Uzbekistan, underscoring the importance of vigilant monitoring and legal action to protect natural resources.
