Officers from the State Security Service (SSS) of Tashkent Region conducted an operational measure to halt the corrupt activities of a lawyer. The defender allegedly promised a local resident to mitigate a court sentence by leveraging his connections within the judicial system.

According to reports, a lawyer from one of the legal bureaus extorted $10,000. In exchange for this sum, he purportedly guaranteed that a court-imposed two-year prison sentence would be commuted to a restriction of freedom. The perpetrator was apprehended red-handed while receiving the funds, which were seized as material evidence.

Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against the lawyer, and investigative actions are underway. Security authorities remind citizens of the need to report such violations via the SSS short number 1520, ensuring full confidentiality.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in combating corruption within Uzbekistan's judicial-legal framework, which could undermine public trust in the justice system.
