The third meeting of the Uzbekistan-China intergovernmental subcommittee on poverty reduction cooperation was held in Tashkent. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Zhili, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and attended by Marat Juraev, First Deputy Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan.
The sides approved a joint action roadmap for 2026-2027. The main focus is on utilizing Chinese experience, with plans for joint scientific research on the causes of poverty and training programs for Uzbek specialists in China.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of agricultural and demonstration projects under China's targeted fund and FAO, totaling $130 million. These projects aim to boost economic growth and reduce poverty in rural areas.
Previously, it was reported that as of March 1, 2026, the credit portfolio of Uzbekistan's population increased by 41.2 trillion soums over the year. The main expenditures of citizens were housing purchases (81.2 trillion), microloans and microcredits (over 91 trillion), and auto lending (39.2 trillion soums). Meanwhile, residents' debts grew faster than business obligations, highlighting ongoing economic pressures and poverty challenges.
