A judge handling economic cases in the Syrdarya Region court has been arrested on suspicion of accepting a bribe of $3,600. According to the press service of the Supreme Court, the judge is suspected of taking money in exchange for ruling in favor of a company operating in Gulistan city during a cassation instance of an economic case under their jurisdiction.
The judge was apprehended with material evidence during an operational measure conducted by law enforcement officers. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by the Supreme Court to combat corruption within the judicial system and purge it of unscrupulous personnel. Special attention is being paid to preventing misconduct among judges and staff, as well as identifying individuals involved in corruption and implementing strict measures against them.
This case follows previous corruption incidents in the judiciary. For instance, earlier, a judge from the Pastdargom District Court for Civil Cases demanded $300 to rule in favor of a plaintiff and was caught with material evidence while receiving the money. Supreme Court data indicates that in 2025, 59 judges were dismissed from their positions in Uzbekistan, with 3 of them facing criminal liability for corruption-related offenses, underscoring persistent challenges in addressing corruption within the court system.
