The meeting between Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojaev and the UAE's Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi focused on strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries. It was noted that the robust political dialogue between the nations is reinforced by practical collaboration, leading to a broad investment portfolio comprising around 100 joint projects worth over $20 billion.
The sides discussed the implementation of current initiatives, including the construction of a hospital for women and children in Nukus with support from the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. The main phase of the project has already been completed, with the facility's commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. Additionally, the project for a new building of the National Archive of Uzbekistan was reviewed.
Islamic finance was highlighted as a promising direction for cooperation, supported by the Islamic banking law signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in March 2026, which will enter into force on June 29. This law establishes a legal framework for developing financial instruments compliant with Sharia norms.
Special attention was given to the transport and logistics sector, including the promotion of a logistics platform in Navoi in partnership with AD Ports and the Trans-Afghan Railway project, which will provide Central Asian countries with direct access to Pakistani seaports. Furthermore, the importance of completing Uzbekistan's accession process to the WTO and advancing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Uzbekistan and the UAE was emphasized.
The meeting also explored ideas such as hosting the Investopia Global – Tashkent Edition forum as part of the Tashkent International Investment Forum and creating a "UAE Alley" in New Tashkent as a symbol of friendship between the two countries, enhancing cultural and economic interplay within the partnership.
