Two separate corruption crimes related to the illegal registration of land plots by officials from cadastral services and their accomplices have been uncovered in the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan. As a result of operational measures conducted by the State Security Council and the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office, these individuals were detained, and criminal cases have been initiated based on the incidents.
The first incident occurred in the Karshi district, where a leading inspector of the district department of the Cadastre Agency offered a citizen to "resolve the issue" of an illegally seized plot of land measuring 12 acres. For $2,000, the official promised to cancel a fine of 82 million soums and, through connections, formalize cadastral documents for the land. The inspector was detained while receiving the full amount.
The second case was recorded in the Shahrisabz district, where an employee of a branch of the State Cadastre Chamber acted in collusion with a 59-year-old accomplice previously convicted of fraud. They demanded $7,000 from an entrepreneur for re-registering 9 acres of land from a dehkan farm for construction purposes. The perpetrators were caught red-handed while receiving an advance payment of $4,000.
Criminal cases have been initiated under the articles "Fraud" and "Bribery" for both incidents, and investigations are ongoing. These cases are noted as part of anti-corruption measures in Uzbekistan, yet their recurrence highlights persistent systemic challenges in the land administration sector.
