Uzbek Minister of Preschool and School Education Ezоza Karimova has strongly condemned the actions of Karmana District Governor Shohrukh Boltayev, who allegedly humiliated teachers. She addressed the incident at a press conference on April 21, highlighting the severity of the matter and the ministry's firm stance.
In March, Karmana District Governor Shohrukh Boltayev held a meeting with students at School No. 9. When students failed to answer his questions due to nervousness, he reportedly ordered 46 teachers from the school to report to the district administration building at 5:00 PM. The teachers had to travel 30 km and stand on their feet while listening to reprimands from the governor.
According to the minister, the students had waited for the governor for two hours and were fatigued, leading to their lack of engagement during the meeting. The governor purportedly blamed the teachers for this. Ezоza Karimova added, “There were instances where our teachers were put on a bus, taken to the district administration building, and forced to write resignation statements.”
Following the incident, a separate letter was issued to the Navoi Regional Administration calling for an official investigation. Two days later, the district governor reportedly acknowledged his mistake, visited School No. 9, and apologized to the staff. He arrived with flowers, gathered the teachers, expressed his apologies, and presented them with letters of appreciation.
Ezоza Karimova stated, “We have taken this incident under control, and the ministry's position in this direction is firm. Because we always protect the dignity and pride of our teachers.” Previously, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had also criticized the Karmana District Governor for deficiencies in handling public appeals during a videoconference meeting.
