The leadership of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Preschool and School Education held a press conference in Tashkent on April 21, where questions were raised about the timeline for the country's transition to a 12-year education system. First Deputy Minister Sherzod Karimov stated that numerous discussions are ongoing regarding this issue, but a clear implementation schedule has not yet been announced.

According to Karimov, the plan includes incorporating a preparatory stage for six-year-old children into the official education system. The primary goal of this stage is to bring all children to a uniform level of preparation before entering school. He said, "Every child must come to school prepared, because their further education depends on it. Currently, not all children come to school from kindergartens. Therefore, it is important to bring everyone to the same level."

The ministry representative emphasized that during the preparatory stage, special attention will be paid to the quality of education, and only teachers with higher education will instruct the children. While these changes aim to improve the educational system, the uncertainty surrounding implementation dates may cause anxiety among parents and educational institutions.

It is recalled that in September 2025, Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education Sardor Rajabov announced the transition of the republic's schools to a 12-year general secondary education system. However, current statements indicate that the process is proceeding without a clear timetable, raising questions about the practical outcomes of these educational reforms.
