The large-scale renewal of the Tashkent Metro fleet with modern Russian trains has posed a serious challenge for Uzbekistan's transport sector. The supply of high-tech trains requires specialists capable of maintaining complex microprocessor equipment. While new trains enter service in the capital, engineers are being trained at factories near Moscow to ensure their operation.
Representatives of Transmashholding (TMH) management briefed journalists in Moscow on how the knowledge transfer process is organized. Under the project, over 100 highly qualified specialists from Uzbekistan have completed internships at Russian production sites. Cooperation is planned to continue in 2026.
TMH Vice President Natalia Shishlakova emphasized that the project focuses on training expert groups. “We train only expert mentors. They then return to their workplaces and train newcomers,” she explained.
Training lasts two weeks and includes two stages: theoretical training at the TMH Corporate University and a week-long practical internship. Interns work in real teams from 8:00 AM, going through all stages of train car maintenance.
After the internship, each specialist must pass an internal exam. “If a person does not pass the test, we do not let them go,” Shishlakova said. After passing the exam in Russia, specialists return to Tashkent, where they take a second exam in Uzbek.
The mentoring program started in 2025, when the first technical repairs of previously delivered trains became due. TMH management stressed the importance of high-quality maintenance for safety.
TMH Deputy Head Alexander Loshmanov noted that there is virtually no language barrier between specialists from the two countries. “We all speak the same professional language, standards are common,” he said. Young specialists (aged 30-40) actively learn from experienced colleagues, while the older generation is fluent in Russian.
The TMH Corporate University is developing partnership with Uzbekistan: a Competence Development Center “Innovative Rail Transport” has been established at Tashkent State Transport University. Russian specialists transfer technological knowledge and conduct certification.
