Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have significantly boosted their trade, economic, and investment cooperation in recent years. From 2017 to 2025, bilateral trade volume increased nearly tenfold, while Azerbaijani investments in Uzbekistan grew from $100,000 to $173.7 million.

The data was released by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) ahead of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s working visit to Azerbaijan on May 17-18 to attend the 13th session of the World Urbanization Forum.

Analysts note that relations between the two countries have reached the level of strategic partnership and alliance. A Supreme Interstate Council chaired by the presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan was established to coordinate cooperation.

According to CERR, trade turnover between the countries grew 9.5 times from $32.5 million to $307.3 million between 2017 and 2025. Uzbekistan’s exports to Azerbaijan increased 8.2 times from $27.6 million to $227.3 million, while imports from Azerbaijan rose 16.3 times from $4.9 million to $80 million.

In 2025, Uzbekistan’s exports were dominated by industrial goods ($63.4 million), machinery and transport equipment ($49.3 million), food products ($36.3 million), and beverages and tobacco ($34.3 million). Imports from Azerbaijan were primarily food products ($43.2 million), accounting for over half of total imports.

Investment cooperation is also developing actively. In 2023, the two sides established the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Company with an authorized capital of $500 million. The number of enterprises with Azerbaijani capital in Uzbekistan grew from 71 in 2017 to 442 in 2025, focusing on construction, industry, and agriculture.

According to analysts, total accumulated Azerbaijani investments in Uzbekistan’s economy reached $318.6 million. Uzbekistan is also expanding its economic presence in Azerbaijan, implementing joint projects in automobile and textile production.

Transport logistics remains a key area of cooperation. Uzbekistan is interested in developing joint projects under the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), which enables cargo delivery to Europe via Azerbaijan.
