On May 12, in Almalyk, two 8-year-old schoolchildren were hit by a service car belonging to Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK) while crossing a pedestrian crossing. One child died at the scene, the other is in serious condition in intensive care.

Witness Utkir Otakhanov said the Toyota pickup was moving at high speed. “The sound of brakes was heard even in a basement near the accident site. The children were crossing the road. One was thrown far, the other remained under the car. I worked in an ambulance for 30 years and realized the condition was critical. We loaded the children and drove to the hospital, but one boy had already died,” he reported.

Relatives of the deceased Abdusamadjon noted that accidents involving children in this area are not uncommon. “Hundreds of schoolchildren cross this busy highway daily, but safety measures are virtually absent. There is a pedestrian crossing, but most drivers do not reduce speed. There is no traffic light at the busy intersection,” said the boy’s grandmother, Nozokat Shomurodova.

The mother of the deceased emphasized the need for a traffic light and constant police presence: “Install a traffic light here – but even then, some cars ignore it. Our neighbors are also worried; everyone now takes their children to school themselves. Can’t traffic police officers patrol here for at least 2 hours a day?”

The second victim, Islambek, is in a coma in the intensive care unit of Almalyk Central Hospital. Traumatologist Azam Normatov diagnosed him with severe open craniocerebral trauma, severe brain contusion, brainstem contusion, intracerebral hematomas in the left temporal region, fracture and depression of the fronto-temporo-parietal bones into the occipital region, chest and abdominal injuries, and traumatic shock. He is on a ventilator.

According to Kun.uz sources, the car belongs to AGMK. Investigative authorities are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
