A presidential decree signed on May 15 outlines plans to install vending machines and small retail outlets in Tashkent Metro stations, as well as to introduce a new fare payment system.
By the end of 2028, vending machines and small mobile retail objects will be placed at station entrances and in inter-station passages, with passenger safety ensured.
Parking lots will be built near metro stations, and a Park & Ride system will be implemented. This may include discounts on metro tickets for users of the parking lots and the ability to pay for parking via metro tickets.
Private entrepreneurs will be allowed to engage in safe business activities in metro tunnels and stations through auction-based rental agreements.
A completely new fare system is to be developed, where passengers pay based on distance traveled or number of stations passed. Special benefits for certain categories of citizens and daily, weekly, and monthly passes are also planned.
The Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Tashkent Metro, and the Tashkent city administration have been tasked with developing proposals based on foreign experience. The new system is expected to be implemented from January 1, 2027. Proposals must be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers within six months.
Key development indicators for the metro until 2030 have been set: daily passenger flow to reach 1.8 million, number of stations to increase to 79, line length to 103 km, and train intervals to be reduced to 2-3 minutes.
