Law enforcement authorities in Uzbekistan's Andijan region have detained several individuals in connection with illegal land sales. Officials are suspected of corruption, according to a Podrobno.uz correspondent.
The State Security Service reported that a hydro-engineering site chief demanded $40,500 from a citizen intending to engage in livestock farming. He promised to arrange a lease for 30 ares of land in a protected zone through acquaintances. He was arrested while receiving a $20,000 advance.
The investigation revealed that the head of a department at the Main Canal Management was also involved. He was detained while receiving $3,000. Additionally, another employee of the same hydro site demanded $19,000 for the same plot. This fact was also documented.
A second incident occurred in Altynkul district. A school director demanded $15,000 from a private driving school. The businessman had won an auction to lease 1.1 hectares of land on the school's premises.
The school director promised to approve the contract in exchange for the money. He was arrested while receiving a $10,000 advance. Criminal cases have been opened for both incidents, and investigations are ongoing.
Earlier, it was reported that three corruption schemes involving officials were thwarted in the Andijan region. The suspects demanded money for court decisions, damage reduction, and illegal land allocation.
