A mudflow triggered by heavy rains in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan has severely damaged a shelter for homeless animals. Preliminary reports indicate that the water flow destroyed fences and partially demolished utility buildings on the shelter's premises.

Emergency services from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are currently engaged in cleanup and damage control operations. Restoration work and damage assessment are ongoing at the site.

Earlier, Uzbekistan had initiated the creation of a unified network of 11 state-run animal shelters across the country.
