The authorities of Uzbekistan have approved plans to transform the Tashkent metro into a faster and more convenient transport system. According to a presidential decree, by 2030 the daily passenger flow is planned to reach 1.8 million people.
The number of stations is expected to increase to 79, and the total length of lines to 103 kilometers. The interval between trains will be reduced to 2–3 minutes, significantly cutting waiting times for passengers.
By the end of 2028, vending machines and small retail outlets may appear at station entrances and in passageways. A “Park & Ride” system will also be introduced near stations, allowing drivers to leave their cars and continue their journey by public transport.
A new fare system will be implemented from January 1, 2027, with the cost of a trip depending on distance. Discounts for certain categories of passengers and daily, weekly, and monthly passes are also planned.
Earlier it was reported that on May 8, the Tashkent metro set a new record by serving over 1.1 million passengers in a single day.
