Uzbekistan plans to construct five mudflow reservoirs between 2027 and 2030, according to a presidential decree titled “On measures to ensure effective use of mudflow waters.” The new facilities aim to improve water supply in the Tashkent, Samarkand, and Jizzakh regions.

The program will also bring new agricultural land into use: 3,300 hectares in Samarkand region and 300 hectares in Tashkent region. Funding of 2 billion soums has been allocated for the design documentation of the Aktepasoy reservoir.

Some projects will involve the private sector. The Tangatopodisoy reservoir in Bakhmal district (Jizzakh region) and the Aksakatasoy reservoir in Bostanlyk district (Tashkent region) will be developed under public-private partnerships.

Private investors will be allowed to generate income from ancillary projects, such as tourist-recreational zones and fish farms, provided they do not compromise the safety of the structures.

The president had previously instructed to expand private sector participation in the water management sector.
