A tragic road accident occurred in the Uzun district of Surxondaryo region, Uzbekistan, when two young men, aged 17 and 20, engaged in an illegal street race without having driver's licenses.
The incident took place on May 28 at 11:50 PM on the 132nd kilometer of the D-169 highway in the Chakar neighborhood. The 17-year-old was driving a Damas with four classmates, while his 20-year-old acquaintance was driving a Nexia.
The crash resulted in the deaths of the 17-year-old driver of the Damas and a passenger in the Nexia. The remaining individuals were hospitalized with various injuries.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of traffic accidents in Uzbekistan decreased by 17.7 percent in the first four months of 2026. However, 31.4 percent of accidents in the first quarter of 2026 resulted in fatalities.
