In Uzbekistan's Jizzakh region, an entrepreneur who was serving a prison sentence was illegally fined a total of 95 million UZS by tax authorities. Following the intervention of the Business Ombudsman, all fines were completely canceled.

The head of the enterprise filed a complaint with the Business Ombudsman regarding the tax authorities' decisions to impose administrative fines. It was revealed that the entrepreneur had been sentenced to imprisonment by the Mirzachul district court on July 24, 2024.

Despite this, the Sharaf-Rashidov district tax inspectorate held him liable for late submission of tax reports during 2024–2025. A total of 27 fine resolutions were issued against the entrepreneur under Part 2 of Article 175 of the Code of Administrative Liability.

After an investigation, the Business Ombudsman's office found that imposing fines on a person in custody contradicts the law. The Ombudsman submitted a conclusion to the Jizzakh regional tax service, citing the absence of an offense under Article 271, paragraph 1 of the Administrative Code.

As a result, all 27 tax authority decisions were revoked, and the fines were annulled. Previously, in the Tashkent region, the Business Ombudsman's intervention led to the cancellation of an unjustified tax assessment of 100 billion UZS.
