Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. A Kyrgyz citizen has been detained in the city of Khanabad, Andijan region, while attempting to exchange a large batch of counterfeit US dollars.

The special operation was carried out by customs officers in cooperation with the State Security Service, internal affairs bodies, and the department for combating economic crimes.

The man was caught red-handed selling $8,700 in fake bills for $3,500 in genuine currency. The counterfeit notes were seized as material evidence.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fake currency was illegally brought into Uzbekistan from Kyrgyzstan.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee, and investigative actions are underway.

Law enforcement agencies remind that the production, storage, transportation, and sale of counterfeit currency not only threaten the country's economic security but also cause serious damage to the financial interests of citizens.

Earlier, a major deal involving fake dollars was thwarted by security forces in Namangan.
