Law enforcement officers in Uzbekistan, working with the Department under the General Prosecutor's Office, have cracked down on multiple cases of illegal trafficking of medicines and medical products across various regions. During operations, large batches of unverified quality drugs, expired medications, and potent substances intended for sale were discovered.
The largest seizure occurred in the Kibray district, where officials found substandard and expired medicines and medical devices worth approximately 7 billion Uzbek soms (about $630,000) in a resident's home.
In Kokand, authorities confiscated nearly 18,500 packages of 46 types of medicines and medical products worth 289.2 million soms from a previously convicted individual. Another case in the same city involved a different person storing about 2,000 packages of 26 types of drugs worth 257.6 million soms without quality documentation.
In the Uchtepa district of Tashkent, a batch of medications was found in a BYD car, leading to a search of the driver's residence. Officers seized 5,400 units of 85 types of foreign-made drugs without quality guarantees, along with 24 packages of potent substances.
Additionally, in the Kashkadarya region, police discovered 4,600 units of 154 types of medicines and medical products worth 262.5 million soms in a house basement. Investigators said the products were being prepared for sale.
Criminal cases have been opened under articles 186-3 and 251-1 of the Criminal Code, which cover illegal trafficking of substandard, counterfeit, and potent drugs. Investigations are ongoing.
Earlier, a warehouse of counterfeit medicines worth half a billion soms was shut down in Bukhara.
