The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has contacted U.S. authorities for official clarification following reports that the national football team was subjected to heightened security screening at New York's airport. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Omonulla Fayziev commented on the incident to Podrobno.uz correspondent.

According to reports, after disembarking from the bus before a match at Icahn Stadium, players and team officials underwent additional checks: their belongings were inspected by security personnel, and detectors and canine units were used. Similar measures were applied to the teams of Senegal and Belgium.

Fayziev stated that contact had been established with U.S. agencies through the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in New York, and an official explanation of the situation has been requested.

"While understanding that any security measures are carried out in accordance with the internal rules of states, we consider it important that such procedures do not harm the spirit of sporting events, which is based on mutual respect, friendship, and the principles of fair play," the Foreign Ministry representative noted.

The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Uzbekistan national team will play in Group K against Colombia, Portugal, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Live broadcasts of the matches will be available in fan zones at schools across Uzbekistan.
