According to Podrobno.uz, Uzbekistan has topped the ranking of the safest and most peaceful countries in Central Asia, securing 37th place in the Global Peace Index published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

The official report shows that the republic improved its position by 10 spots compared to 2025, when it held 47th place.

This result allowed Uzbekistan to surpass all its regional neighbors for the first time, including last year's leader Tajikistan, and to outrank developed European nations such as the United Kingdom (39th) and Sweden (40th).

Within Central Asia, the rankings are as follows: Kazakhstan (44th), Tajikistan (47th), Kyrgyzstan (61st), and Turkmenistan (66th).

According to IEP analysts, Uzbekistan's rise is attributed to a steady decline in domestic crime rates, high assessments of personal safety for citizens, and a pragmatic foreign policy focused on strengthening neighborly relations and avoiding participation in cross-border military blocs.

Uzbekistan's improvement comes amid record pessimistic global trends: the report's authors emphasize that in 2026, global peacefulness fell to its lowest level in 20 years of measurement, deteriorating in 99 out of 163 assessed countries.
