A 25-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan has been sentenced in the Andijan region for signing a contract with the Russian Armed Forces and participating in the armed conflict against Ukraine.

A copy of the court ruling is available to Podrobno.uz. According to case materials, in December 2025, the man traveled to St. Petersburg for work, where he was offered a job as a driver at a military unit for 2.5 million rubles.

After signing the contract, he was sent to a training ground in the Kursk region, where he underwent training, received a uniform and an AK-74 assault rifle. The case file states that he took part in hostilities on Russia's side, including launching drones toward the Ukrainian border.

Later, the man sustained a wound to his left leg. He claimed he tried to hide from a drone, jumped into a basement, and his rifle accidentally discharged several times. After treatment, he contacted the Uzbek embassy and returned home.

The court found him guilty under Article 154 (Mercenarism) of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 3 years in a general-regime penal colony.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan proposes to deprive bribe-takers of the right to early release.
