Uzbekistan is targeting the Albanian port of Durres as a logistics hub to access markets in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. The issue was discussed during talks at the Kuksaroy residence in Tashkent.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his Albanian counterpart Bajram Begaj held a meeting in Tashkent with official delegations. The Uzbek leader emphasized that the first summit in the history of bilateral relations would be historic and elevate ties to a new level.

The sides discussed increasing trade turnover and preparing a cooperation program in agro-industry, green energy, geology, IT, and tourism. An agreement was reached to establish an Intergovernmental Commission, with its first meeting to be held in Tashkent this year.

In the cultural sphere, mutual Days of Culture, film screenings, exhibitions, and tours were planned. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international agendas.

Following the talks, the heads of state planted a tree on the Alley of Honored Guests. Earlier, it was reported that during the Albanian president's visit to Uzbekistan, the sides would exchange views on topical international issues, including mechanisms of mutual support at multilateral platforms.
