A street named after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk will appear in Tashkent, following a presidential decree [PQ-226] signed on June 15.

According to the decree, a section of Abdulla Qodiriy Street in the Yashnobod district, adjacent to the under-construction 'Uzbek-Turkish Friendship' park, will be renamed after Ataturk. The section runs from the intersection of Istiqbol, Fergana Road, and Nukus streets to the intersection of Abdulla Qodiriy Street and Makhtumkuli Avenue (Babur Eco-Park).

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (1881−1938) was the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, he established an independent Turkish state and implemented sweeping political, legal, and social reforms. In 1934, he was granted the surname 'Ataturk' ('Father of the Turks').

The plan to name a street after Ataturk was first discussed in 2022 ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Uzbekistan, by Ambassador Olgan Bekar and then-mayor of Tashkent Jahongir Ortiqkhodjaev. The issue was revisited in February 2025.

Previously, a street named Ataturk existed in central Tashkent, housing the large Turkish supermarket 'Demir'. In spring 2011, it was renamed Zarafshan after the shopping complex.

Additionally, another presidential decree [PQ-225] renames Ezgu tilak Street in the Ashkhabad mahalla of Bogot district, Khorezm region, after Shakardzhan Khodzhaniyazova.

Shakardzhan Khodzhaniyazova (1955−2017) was a state and public figure who held leadership positions in Khorezm region for many years. She served as hokim of Bogot district, deputy hokim of the region, and chairwoman of the regional women's committee. She was awarded the 'Mehnat shuhrati' order and the honorary title 'Honored Agricultural Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan'.
