Uzbekistan midfielder Abbosbek Fayzullaev has set a unique record at the World Cup, becoming the shortest player to score a headed goal in the 21st century. The 22-year-old, who stands at just 167 cm, achieved the feat in Uzbekistan's debut match against Colombia.
According to statistics platform Opta, Fayzullaev surpassed the previous record held by Uruguay's Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who scored a header at 173 cm in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar against Ghana.
Fayzullaev's historic goal came in the 60th minute when he was first to a rebound in the penalty area and headed the ball into the net, leveling the score at 1-1.
Despite the milestone, Uzbekistan lost their opening match of the 2026 World Cup 2-1 to Colombia. The team scored their first-ever World Cup goal but conceded twice in the second half, ultimately falling short.
