The Uzbekistan national chess team finished eighth at the FIDE World Rapid Team Championship in Hong Kong. After 12 rounds, the team collected 15 points, recording 7 wins, 1 draw, and 4 losses.
One of the tournament's highlights was Javokhir Sindarov's victory over former world champion Magnus Carlsen in the 9th round on board one. Carlsen had previously lost two consecutive games to Arjun Erigaisi and Shant Sargsyan, skipping one round.
The match between WR Chess and Uzbekistan ended in a 3:3 draw. Nodirbek Abdusattorov lost to Wesley So, and Nodirbek Yakubboev lost to Fabiano Caruana. Points were secured by Mukhiddin Madaminov, Afruza Khamdamova, and Akjol Rakhmatullaev.
Compared to last year, Uzbekistan dropped four places. In 2025, in London, the team finished fourth with 17 points (7 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses).
The rapid world champion was China's Dragon Chilling team (18 points: 8 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses). Second place went to Team MGD1, and third to Hexamind Chess Team.
The best result for Uzbekistan was achieved by Nodirbek Yakubboev: 7.5 points in 11 games, rating performance 2620. Javokhir Sindarov scored 6.5 points in 10 games (4 wins, 5 draws, 1 loss) with a performance of 2708, among the best on board one.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov scored 6 points in 11 games (performance 2574), Shamsiddin Vokhidov 4 points in 7 games, Mukhiddin Madaminov 5 points in 9 games. Among women, Afruza Khamdamova scored 5 points in 7 games (performance 2421), Umida Omonova 3 points in 5 games, and Akjol Rakhmatullaev 6 points in 12 rounds.
The championship consists of two parts: rapid and blitz. The prize fund is 500,000 euros (310,000 for rapid, 190,000 for blitz). The rapid winner receives 110,000 euros. Blitz starts on June 20, with quarterfinals and final on June 21.
