The academic buildings of the Nizami State Pedagogical University in Tashkent's Chilanzar district have been put up for sale via an electronic auction. The non-residential premises at 27 Bunyodkor Street, along with faculty buildings in other districts, are being sold as separate lots.
Applications will be accepted until 09:00 on July 20, with the auction scheduled for 10:00 the same day. The auction will be conducted with ascending bids. The starting price for the lot is 886.6 billion soums, of which 1.3 billion soums accounts for the value of perennial trees. The deposit is 26.59 billion soums (3% of the starting price), and the first bid increment is 44.33 billion soums (5%).
The total land area is 5.64 hectares, and the building area is 25,831 square meters. The property is connected to water, gas, electricity, and sewage networks. The land use right is listed as permanent. The buyer is required to establish a private educational institution on the site in accordance with urban planning standards and maintain this type of activity.
According to the lot materials, the property must be vacated by December 31, 2029. The transfer to the buyer may occur before or after this date, depending on the completion of the new campus for the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University in New Tashkent.
In April 2024, the president launched the construction of the first facilities in New Tashkent, including the campuses of the 'New Uzbekistan' University and the Nizami Pedagogical University, as well as the National Library. The head of state emphasized that New Tashkent should become a 'center of enlightenment and culture' for the entire region.
If the state asset is sold with installment payments and the initial payment is less than 35%, interest will be charged on the remaining amount at the Central Bank's key rate. A buyer who pays at least 35% of the initial payment has the right to use the purchased property as collateral for a loan. The privatization is based on a presidential decree dated April 21, 2025.
The university was founded in 1935 and is designed to accommodate over 18,000 students. Currently, education is provided across 6 faculties, with 58 bachelor's and 30 master's programs. In 2025, more than 6,000 students graduated from the institution.
Earlier, the Tashkent State University of Law was planned to be relocated to New Tashkent under a presidential decision of November 26, 2025. The vacated site is expected to house the Museum of the History of Uzbek Law, the Uzbek Dispute Resolution Center, the Digital Law Center, and the Digital Forensic Center.
In Tashkent, the building of 'Thermal Power Plants' was also put up for sale with a starting price of 191.5 billion soums. Previously, Hamkorbank purchased the former building of the Ministry of Construction in the city center for 196 billion soums.
In November 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to relocate all state executive bodies, including ministries and agencies, as well as higher education institutions, to New Tashkent.
Earlier, the relocation of some universities from the city center to other districts was discussed. In 2023, it was reported that the Tashkent State University of Economics and the Tashkent Financial Institute might be moved from the center to the Sergeli district. The relocation of the Pharmaceutical Institute from the center to the Zangiota district was also proposed, with plans to build a hotel and a 1,000-space parking lot on the vacated site.
Construction of New Tashkent began in March 2023 after the head of state laid a capsule at the site of the future city. The new city is designed for 1 million residents.
