A healthy 21-year-old woman has been left paralyzed after giving birth at Maternity Hospital No. 9 in Tashkent. The incident occurred on April 24. The pregnancy was uncomplicated, and the woman entered labor without serious issues.
During delivery, an epidural anesthesia was administered for pain relief. Subsequently, the woman's condition deteriorated, and she fell into a coma. The baby was delivered via cesarean section.
Three days later, the mother and newborn were transferred to the intensive care unit of the Republican Center for Emergency Medical Care. The woman regained consciousness but shows signs of paralysis. The Tashkent Health Department confirmed the incident, stating that the patient is under medical supervision.
An official conclusion on the causes of the deterioration has not yet been published. Previously, Uzbek anesthesiologist Jakhongir Djuraev noted in an interview with Kun.uz that the field of anesthesiology in Uzbekistan requires deep reforms to prevent such severe complications.
