According to preliminary results of the population and agriculture census, 35.7 million people, or 91.3% of Uzbekistan's residents, listed Uzbek as their native language.
This figure is 1.9 percentage points higher than the share of ethnic Uzbeks in the country's total population.
The number of ethnic Uzbeks in Uzbekistan stands at 33.9 million, accounting for 89.4% of the population.
Experts note that the higher proportion of native Uzbek speakers compared to ethnic Uzbeks indicates that many non-Uzbek ethnic groups also consider Uzbek their mother tongue.
These census results are crucial for shaping language policy and social programs in the country.
