A criminal case against a 27-year-old man who fraudulently stole a car in Tashkent's Chilanzar district has been heard in the district criminal court.
According to a witness who spoke to Daryo news, on October 9, 2025, at approximately 3:04 AM, the man approached a Gentra car parked near a multi-story building in Chilanzar.
The thief called the owner using a phone number left on the windshield, claiming the car was blocking his own vehicle. He asked the owner to remotely unlock the doors, promising to move the car and return it.
The owner complied, after which the suspect got into the Gentra and drove away. Suspecting foul play, the owner went outside and discovered the theft. Later that day, police arrested and detained the suspect.
The court reviewed the case under Article 267, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (Vehicle Theft). During the proceedings, it was revealed that the defendant had been suffering from a mental disorder since February 13, 2023, and was registered at the Republican Clinical Psychiatric Hospital.
The court found that the defendant committed the socially dangerous act while in a state of insanity, and therefore the criminal proceedings were terminated. The court ordered compulsory medical measures, sending the man to the Republican Clinical Psychiatric Hospital for mandatory treatment.
