President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed participants of the First International Forum of Islamic Civilization, currently taking place in the country. He emphasized the role of science, education, and spiritual values as a foundation for peace and development amid global challenges.

In his message, the head of state noted that holding the forum in Uzbekistan is symbolic and reflects growing interest in the rich heritage of Islamic civilization. According to him, today's world faces serious problems – from conflicts and mistrust to extremism and Islamophobia. That is why values that have served as the basis for peaceful coexistence for centuries are gaining particular importance.

The president recalled Uzbekistan's initiative 'Enlightenment against Ignorance,' stating that only knowledge, culture, and upbringing can ensure sustainable development and mutual understanding. At the same time, Islam inspires a person to seek truth, develop science, and engage in creative labor, Mirziyoyev stressed.

The head of state also noted the region's contribution to world history, mentioning the names of Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, Beruni, Ibn Sina, Ulugh Beg, Imam Bukhari, and other great thinkers. According to him, modern Uzbekistan seeks to continue this tradition and is laying the foundation for a 'Third Renaissance,' relying on science, innovation, and education.

The president also spoke about efforts to preserve Islamic heritage, including the development of the Center for Islamic Civilization and the restoration of historical monuments. According to him, the Center is already becoming an international platform for scholars, connecting the past and the future.

Mirziyoyev expressed hope that the forum will become a new stage of international cooperation, uniting universities, museums, libraries, research institutes, and scientific centers from different countries, and its outcome will be a joint action program.

The president noted that the Quranic call 'Iqra' – 'Read' – still reminds us of the key role of knowledge in the development of society.

Forum events are taking place in Tashkent, Samarkand, and Termez from July 7 to 11. It involves scientists, theologians, experts, and representatives of specialized organizations from dozens of countries.
