Uzbekistan national team captain Eldor Shomurodov has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir. The club exercised the purchase option from Italian side Roma, signing the striker until the summer of 2028.

Shomurodov initially joined Basaksehir on loan last season, where he delivered an impressive performance. In the 2023-24 campaign, he scored 23 goals and provided six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

The 28-year-old forward previously played for Rostov, Genoa, Spezia, and Cagliari. His move to Turkey marks a new chapter in his career, having struggled for game time at Roma.

Shomurodov's transfer highlights the growing presence of Uzbek players in Turkish football. He remains a key figure for the national team, which is preparing for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Notably, his goal against DR Congo was voted the best of the group stage at the FIFA World Cup, receiving 36% of fan votes.
