Law enforcement officers in Fergana, Uzbekistan, have thwarted an attempt to illegally sell a large batch of hashish. Nearly 6 kilograms of the drug were hidden in a pile of fine gravel. A local woman has been detained on suspicion of possessing the banned substance.

The operation was conducted as part of the preventive campaign “Safe and Healthy Country.” It involved officers from the Fergana Regional Department of the State Security Service (SSS), along with representatives of the Internal Affairs Department and customs.

During operational activities in the “Beshbola” neighborhood of Fergana, security forces discovered a cache hidden in a pile of fine gravel. Investigators determined that a 43-year-old local woman had hidden 5.9 kilograms of hashish there, presumably for subsequent sale.

According to law enforcement, this is not the first such episode in her history. She had previously been convicted for drug-related crimes.

A criminal case has been opened against the woman under paragraph “a” of Part 5 of Article 273, with reference to Article 25 – “attempted crime involving illegal drug trafficking on an especially large scale.”

Investigators are currently working to identify possible accomplices of the suspect and determine the origin of the seized hashish, as well as supply and distribution channels.

Earlier, a large batch of drugs was discovered in a vehicle on the Tashkent–Fergana highway. More than 8.9 kilograms of hashish were seized from a previously convicted driver.
