Uzbekistan's meteorological service, Uzgidromet, has issued a warning that extremely hot air masses from the south will sweep across the country from July 13 to 17. Temperatures are expected to soar to +41…+43°C in most regions.
During the hottest days, thermometers in the north, south, and desert areas could reach +44…+46°C, significantly exceeding seasonal norms. The heatwave poses serious health risks, including heatstroke and dehydration.
Wind speeds are forecast to increase to 13-18 m/s in some areas, accompanied by dust storms. This combination of extreme heat and dust can exacerbate respiratory issues and reduce visibility.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has previously warned that extreme heat can be fatal. Recommendations to prevent heat stress include staying in the shade, setting air conditioners to +27°C, drinking 2-3 liters of water daily, and never leaving children in parked cars.
For detailed information on heat and its health impacts, refer to WHO materials. In 2023, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Health also published guidelines on how to cope with the hottest period of summer.
