President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Salim Al-Malik, who arrived in Tashkent to participate in the First International Forum of Islamic Civilization.
During the meeting, the sides discussed expanding cooperation in education, science, culture, and preservation of historical heritage. It was noted that Uzbekistan's interaction with ICESCO is actively developing.
A chair of the organization operates at the International Islamic Academy, an office opened in Tashkent this year, and seven tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites of Uzbekistan were recently included in the ICESCO List.
The sides also discussed projects for restoration and digitalization of cultural monuments and ancient manuscripts, promotion of Uzbekistan's historical heritage at the international level, and organization of new cultural events.
At the end of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev awarded Salim Al-Malik the Order of Friendship (Dustlik) for his contribution to promoting the country's cultural heritage.
Earlier, ICESCO together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan announced the launch of an international scholarship program that will allow students to receive quality education abroad with full financial support.
