Uzbekistan is set to create a Higher School of Integrated Educational Programs based on the curricula of British universities, as part of efforts to introduce international education standards. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved the proposal.
According to the presidential press service, the new Higher School will be established under the Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Initially, training will be organized according to the programs of Britain's Northumbria University and the University of Hertfordshire, with Italy's Sapienza University, the University of Southampton, and the University of Glasgow to join later. Students will be able to receive diplomas from the partner foreign universities.
Currently, educating one student in the UK costs $50,000 per year. The integrated programs are expected to reduce students' expenses for tuition and living abroad by up to ten times.
The new system also ensures continuity between school, lyceum, technical college, and university. Graduates of the 9th grade will be able to study for two years at home and then three years at a foreign university.
Additionally, plans are underway to create an International University Campus in Tashkent, modeled after Education City in Qatar and similar projects in the UAE and South Korea. Incentives for licensing, taxes, and grants are envisaged.
Responsible officials have been tasked with gradually expanding the integrated programs and developing cooperation with leading universities.
Earlier, Uzbekistan changed the rules for accounting language and other certificates: now applicants receive additional points, and teachers receive salary supplements.
