The Uzbekistan Football Federation has decided to retain Fabio Cannavaro as head coach of the national team, with his tenure now set to continue at least until the 2027 Asian Cup, according to Championat.Asia.

Despite significant criticism from fans following recent matches, the federation has opted to maintain the current coaching staff. The decision is reportedly based on a long-term approach to team development.

Another factor is the substantial investment made in bringing Cannavaro and his staff, making a premature change financially unwise. Cannavaro has been in charge for less than a year, and the federation believes it is too early to judge his work solely on initial results.

The upcoming Asian Cup will serve as the key test for the Italian coach. The tournament features traditional powerhouses such as Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, and Australia, as well as rising teams like Jordan and Iraq.

Cannavaro's performance in the Asian Cup will determine whether he can elevate Uzbekistan's national team to a new level.
