The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has included the experience of organizing its 150th anniversary Assembly in Tashkent among examples of best practices, according to the IPU's annual report for 2025, published in Geneva.
The 150th Assembly took place in Tashkent from April 5-9, 2025. It was the first such forum held in Central Asia and became the largest international parliamentary event in the region.
The report notes that the Assembly was part of broader efforts to develop inter-parliamentary cooperation. It analyzes key areas of IPU activity and interaction with member parliaments, with special attention to Uzbekistan's initiatives presented as effective solutions.
In 2025, the IPU conducted 80 international events, including two Assemblies and 40 national capacity-building programs. The organization also reviewed 1,027 cases related to violations of parliamentarians' rights.
The Tashkent Assembly received special mention in the report. The IPU praised its high level of organization and noted that Uzbekistan was the first Central Asian country to host such an event.
The main outcome document was the Tashkent Declaration, which calls on parliaments to develop measures to reduce poverty, promote democratic economies for vulnerable groups, and strengthen institutions regulating new technologies, including artificial intelligence.
Among Uzbekistan's initiatives highlighted were the "10 Practical Actions to Achieve Gender Equality in Parliaments" program, human rights seminars, and the Senate's roadmap to harmonize IPU decisions with national development priorities.
IPU experts believe that consistent work to implement international forum decisions at the national level was a key factor in Uzbekistan's experience being recognized in the report. The organization considers this approach replicable by other parliaments.
