An inventory check at state museums in Uzbekistan has revealed the loss of museum items from the funds of the Kokand State Museum-Reserve and its branches, as well as the Syrdarya Regional State Museum of History and Culture, the Cultural Heritage Agency reported.

Specifically, about 500 exhibits are missing from the Kokand State Museum-Reserve and its branches, including the Gafur Gulyam Kokand Literature Museum, while 16 items are unaccounted for at the Syrdarya Regional Museum.

Documents regarding the identified cases have been submitted to the prosecutor's office for legal assessment and appropriate action in accordance with the law, the statement said.

The inventory of museum collections is being carried out gradually across the country to assess the preservation of museum items. This was stipulated in a presidential decree of 2022, which tasked the Prosecutor General's Office, the Cultural Heritage Agency, the Cultural Heritage Protection Inspectorate under the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Academy of Sciences with conducting a full inventory of museum items and collections in all museums, as well as cultural valuables in other funds, regardless of ownership and departmental subordination.
