As of July 1, 2026, Uzbekistan's permanent population stood at 38,519.5 thousand people. The growth rate decreased by 0.3% compared to the same period in 2025 (2%), reaching 1.7%.

Urban residents account for 50.9% (19,608.9 thousand), while rural residents make up 49.1% (18,910.6 thousand). Women constitute 49.6% (19,118.9 thousand) and men 50.4% (19,400.6 thousand).

In January-June 2026, 373.4 thousand children were born, 32.1 thousand fewer than in the same period of 2025. The birth rate was 19.6 per mille. Of the newborns, 51.7% were boys and 48.3% girls. Urban areas saw 182.9 thousand births, rural areas 190.5 thousand.

Deaths totaled 86.9 thousand, an increase of 2.8 thousand from the previous year. The death rate stood at 4.6 per mille. Among the deceased, 55.6% were men and 44.4% women. Urban areas recorded 47.3 thousand deaths, rural areas 39.6 thousand.

Migration activity rose significantly: 185.6 thousand people moved within the country, while 189.3 thousand moved out. In the same period last year, these figures were 127.8 thousand and 132.6 thousand, respectively. Internal migration volume increased by nearly 45% year-on-year, reaching 183.9 thousand.

Immigration from abroad grew from 673 to 1,649 people, while emigration decreased from 5,551 to 5,422. As a result, the negative net external migration slightly narrowed.

Preliminary census results as of January 15, 2026, showed Uzbekistan's population at 39,047,321, which is 810,617 higher than current estimates.
