Uzbekistan's Interior Ministry announced the extradition of 54-year-old Georgiy Sorokin from Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to Tashkent. Known in criminal circles as 'Jora Tashkentsky' and 'Soroka', he had been wanted for various crimes for several years.

Born in Uzbekistan and a Russian citizen, Sorokin had been living in Dubai in recent years. A forged Russian passport was found on him, which he allegedly used for years to travel to different countries.

According to the ministry, in 2021, Sorokin conspired with Jumayev, Jorayev, and others in Tashkent to seize two houses worth a total of $350,000. He allegedly threatened the owner through extortion, beat him, and used violence against his family members. The houses were later registered in the names of his accomplices.

Sorokin has been charged under Article 165, Part 3, Clause 'a' of the Criminal Code (extortion on an especially large scale), which carries a sentence of 10 to 15 years in prison. He was arrested through cooperation between Uzbekistan's Interior Ministry and law enforcement agencies in other countries via Interpol.

The report notes that Sorokin committed his first crime in 1990 at age 18 and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. He has since been repeatedly prosecuted and served time for crimes committed in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and other CIS countries.
