Uzbekistan will prepare calculations within three months to switch 1,916 settlements with limited access to natural gas to electric heating.
The instruction was given at a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the development of the fuel and energy sector.
Responsible agencies must determine the required energy infrastructure and additional electricity volumes for the project. A separate plan will be developed for settlements needing state funding.
The meeting also discussed the supply of liquefied gas to the population, currently used by about 3.7 million households. Despite digitalization, timely delivery issues persist.
Consequently, a proposal to involve the private sector in liquefied gas supply was approved. A pilot project is planned in the Andijan region.
Earlier, Mirziyoyev explained the reasons for personnel changes in the energy sector, stating that the energy minister and head of Regional Electric Networks were dismissed due to serious system deficiencies.
