In Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region, poachers engaged in illegal hunting opened fire on reserve employees. The incident occurred at the 'Sherjon' site of the Surkhan State Reserve.

During a patrol, inspectors spotted three men with hunting weapons and demanded they stop. However, the violators ignored the demand, fired shots towards the reserve staff, then abandoned their backpacks and fled.

Upon examining the abandoned items, inspectors found the butchered carcasses of two animals, presumably obtained through illegal hunting.

Operational measures led to the identification of the suspects. All materials were handed over to the Sherabad district internal affairs department. A criminal case has been initiated under the article on violation of wildlife use procedures. An investigation is underway.

Earlier, poachers in the region killed and ate pelicans listed in the Red Book, reportedly out of curiosity.
